Are Democrats Distracted?
Democrats are hanging their heads in disbelief. Arguably the worst tax bill in American history is about to pass, despite small hiccups. Democrats are looking to gain from this, because presidential approval is lower than ever. Republicans are going to suffer for this during midterm elections. However, we remain critical of Democrats’ upcoming approval.
It is clear that Democrats stumbled when it comes to American tax reform. The American two party system works on a firm basis of loyal opposition. There is hard work in the title of loyal opposition. They are not living up to it. They have failed to prevent the passing of a reckless bill, one that comes riddled with debt and a bigger burden on the middle class.
Clearly, they have been distracted while the Republicans have been concocting dangerous bills. The question is, what were they doing?
Bye Bye Obamacare
The Democrats scrambled as fast they could in 2010 to pass Obamacare. Now, by letting the condition to repeal an important mandate pass, hidden in the folds of the tax bill, they have ended Obamacare as America knows it. Under the pretence of saving taxpayer money, Republicans have delivered a swift blow to Obamacare.
The opposition party does little beyond tweeting and making angry statements to the press. This amounts to very little. They have not influenced any part of the bill. Where is the action behind the big talk?
Democrats’ Useless Outrage
The loyal opposition have been pitching a resist Trump movement since the day of his inauguration. They have paid so much attention to the Russian probes, and Trump’s lewd attitude towards women. They have focused on Trump’s prejudice and inexperience. While these are important matters, they have not affected legislature.
What they fail to do is to provide a proper opposition in Congress. Perhaps if protests and outrage should have been been used towards tax reform. International attention puts pressure on the administration. The Democrats fail to rally Americans to action. Their actions against Trump are consistently ineffective.
All in all, we have to concede that Democrats will share 50% responsibility for the tax bill when it is passed.
