A recent poll taken by CBS has found that 68% of Americans do not approve of the changes to the Affordable Care Act in the upcoming tax bill.
A series of ads have been released by an Obamacare advocacy group called Save My Care. The main targets are 13 Republican House members, who have previously voted against a bill repealing Obamacare. The ads illustrate the problems of repealing the mandate that requires individuals to have health insurance, which include older Americans paying more money and overall premiums rising by 10%. It is urging Americans to call their constituents and ask them to vote against the tax bill if it includes the provision of the repeal.
The opposition comes from both Republicans and Democrats. Question 35 of the CBS poll asks Americans, “Do you think changes to the 2010 Affordable Care Act should be included in any new tax plan, or kept separate from any new tax plan?” 62% of Republicans and 72% of Democrats who answered say it should be kept separate from the tax bill.
Currently, a final draft of the legislation is being discussed by both House and Senate. It was the Senate’s tax bill that had this repeal. The repeal is likely to stay in the final version. Despite all Democratic members of House and Senate opposing the tax bill, Republicans have the votes to pass it on their own.
A total of 1120 people participated in the CBS poll, in which there were nearly 40 questions. A stark difference regarding the Trump administration is obvious between the Blues and Reds, but on this they are united. They do not want to see the Obamacare mandate included in the new tax bill. Republicans have already failed in trying to repeal it this year.
This spells trouble for Congressional elections, like we have mentioned before. The American public is not going to be happy with the tampering of Obamacare. Republicans will soon face the brunt of that.
