If you had to pick one company that has evolved the most over the past few years, Amazon would have to be near the top of that list. What started as an online shopping site for pretty much anything has become a company that sells… well pretty much anything. From original video content to E-readers, Alexa listening devices to food deliveries, the company has become a juggernaut in almost every sector.
Yet Amazon seems to be on a mission to be the top name in tech. Here’s an example; Business Insider reports that:
In the span of about an hour on Wednesday morning Amazon went on a hardware rampage, unleashing four new Alexa-powered smart gadgets and a handful of new accessories. It’s a sign of Amazon’s relentless pace: Already this year, it launched the Echo Look (a voice-controlled camera) and the Echo Show (a voice-controlled tablet/video phone), both of which constituted major new product categories.
These forays into new product lines are becoming part of Amazon’s strategy. By releasing many items simultaneously they hope to saturate the market with quality hardware that takes advantage of their efficient Alexa software. As The Verge puts it:
All of these new devices build on Amazon’s big win of getting the hardware and software scenario just right for Alexa. Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Samsung made the mistake of focusing on phones or PCs for voice assistants, instead of a shared household device like Alexa. The competition is slowly catching up with devices of their own, but Amazon is marching towards the reality of Tony Stark’s Jarvis or Star Trek’s LCARS.
They argue that as a result of this approach they are firmly in the lead for a home AI system. With Amazon showing no signs of letting up, investors should take some time to consider the viability of adding Amazon to their portfolios. The company’s approach may be risky but if you are open to some risk, this may just be the right investment for you.
