Business Record senior staff writer Joe Gardyasz has announced he will be retiring.

CEO Suzanna de Baca writes, “‘Joe has been instrumental to the Business Record newsroom for the better part of two decades,’ said Business Record Editor Emily Barske. ‘Known affectionately as ‘Ticker Joe’ by our newsroom (tickers are what we internally call our news briefs, which Joe has produced in the thousands), his hard work day in and day out has made each of our news products better. We cannot thank him enough for his work.’

“Gardyasz’s focuses have included key industries in Iowa, including banking and finance, insurance, manufacturing, and health and wellness. His role has also encompassed producing a variety of business stories for the Business Record’s print and digital editions. During his tenure, he has interviewed CEOs of nearly every major corporation located in Central Iowa, penned countless profiles of new-to-town leaders, and has delved into critical and often complicated topics that deeply affect Iowa’s economy.

“Additionally, Gardyasz has made significant contributions to BPC’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, in particular through his extensive coverage and support of mental health. His writing on this topic has helped to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health in the workplace.”
